This course is tailored for educators, support staff, and carers who are responsible for the health and safety of children in their care. It meets the First Aid, asthma, and anaphylaxis training requirements under the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations.
This course is essential for anyone working in childcare centres, early learning services, or school-based settings where caring for children’s health and safety is a core part of the role.
This workshop covers the following:
Assess emergency situations quickly and calmly, ensuring safety for themselves, the casualty, and others
Provide first aid for a wide range of conditions, including bleeding, burns, choking, fractures, head injuries, and shock
Recognise and respond to asthma emergencies, including how to identify symptoms, follow an asthma action plan, and correctly use reliever medications (e.g. Ventolin via spacer)
Respond effectively to anaphylaxis, including the use of adrenaline auto-injectors (e.g. EpiPen) and emergency care steps
Perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) on infants, children, and adults, including safe use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Provide first aid for common childhood incidents, such as falls, bites and stings, febrile convulsions, and allergic reactions
Communicate calmly and clearly with children during emergency situations, offering reassurance and age-appropriate support
Accurately document and report incidents in line with workplace and regulatory requirements
Apply infection control procedures and understand legal responsibilities, including duty of care, privacy, and confidentiality
Follow the Education and Care Services National Regulations and organisational policies for first aid in education and care settings
Please be aware that in order to make an accurate verbal report to the supervisor and the emergency response services as well as provide written incident reports, adequate language skills are required and assessed.
Participants will need to participate in physical tasks and will be required to kneel on the floor to allow assessment as stipulated by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC). Participants will need to wear appropriate attire to allow movement on the floor.
Online pre-assessment: Prior to the classroom attendance, participants will be required to complete a pre-assessment.
This will be submitted prior to your classroom session and assessed as “Satisfactory”.
Classroom: 5 hours (Maximum class size of 15 persons per workshop)
On successful completion of this course, participants will then receive a Statement of Attainment within 10 business days.
All Health Training and The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recommends this course to be renewed every 3 years from the date of issue. However, the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) also stipulates that to maintain this level of competency that you are required to update the CPR (HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation) component of the course on an annual basis.
