This nationally recognised course applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, include community and workplace settings and enables the participant to provide a first aid response to a casualty.

This workshop covers the following:
Recognise and assess emergency situations to ensure safety for themselves, the casualty, and bystanders
Respond effectively to common injuries and medical emergencies, including bleeding, burns, fractures, sprains, asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, epilepsy, shock, and choking
Perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) on adults and children, including safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Follow DRSABCD action plan to provide an effective and structured emergency response
Apply basic wound care techniques, including managing cuts, abrasions, and embedded objects
Provide first aid for environmental emergencies, such as bites, stings, hypothermia, and heat stroke
Use appropriate first aid equipment and resources, including bandages, slings, spacers, and auto-injectors
Communicate effectively during an incident, including providing reassurance to casualties and relaying information to emergency services
Accurately document and report incidents in line with workplace policies and legal requirements
Apply infection control procedures, manage risks, and understand duty of care, privacy, and legal responsibilities
Please be aware that in order to make an accurate verbal report to the supervisor and the emergency response services as well as provide written incident reports, adequate language skills are required and assessed. Participants will need to participate in physical tasks and will be required to kneel on the floor to allow assessment as stipulated by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC). Participants will need to wear appropriate attire to allow movement on the floor.
Online pre-assessment: Prior to the classroom attendance, participants will be required to complete a pre-assessment. This will be submitted prior to your classroom session and assessed as “Satisfactory”.
Classroom: 4 hours (Maximum class size of 15 persons per workshop)
On successful completion of this course, participants will then receive a Statement of Attainment within 10 business days.
All Health Training and The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recommends this course to be renewed every 3 years from the date of issue. However, the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) also stipulates that to maintain this level of competency that you are required to update CPR (HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation) component of the course on an annual basis.
