The management of older adults with Type 2 diabetes requires careful consideration of the effects that advancing age and changes in health status can have on the competing risks and benefits of therapeutic interventions.
Risk factors for developing Type 2 diabetes include getting older and lack of physical activity. Due to many elderly people in residential aged care being immobile,
they rely on staff and carers to help with maintaining their blood glucose levels through a healthy diet, physical activity and administration of diabetes medications, injections and insulin.
