Important Notice. Changes To Our First aid Courses

In October 2020, the Australian Industry Skills Committee (AISC) endorsed the release of new versions of first aid units of competency within the HLT Health Training Package.

Recommended resources regarding changes:

These updates have been made to reflect industry best practice, expectations and current regulations, and are now available on the National Register www.training.gov.au

What are the important changes?

New Unit Supersedes Equivalence
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation  Non-equivalent
HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support Non-equivalent
HLTAID011 Provide first aid HLTAID003 Provide first aid Non-equivalent
HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting  Non-equivalent

What this means for training organisations such as All Health Training?
  • Training organisations have 12 months to transition delivering and assessing the new first aid units.  This allows sufficient time for an implementation schedule.
  • Under the ASQA Standards, qualifications with the old codes will need to be delivered and assessed in the unit noted in the training package.  Unfortunately we do not have the ability to change this.  This will be the case until each qualification is updated.
What does this mean for you?
  • Students who achieve a qualification such as Cert III in Individual Support, Cert III Health Services Assistance, Cert III Pathology Collection or Cert IV Disability will continue to have the unit code HLTAID003 Provide first aid until the training package is updated, which may be years from now.
  • Students who complete the unit in a public workshop or via their employer as a stand-alone delivery will obtain the old unit codes until we convert to the new unit codes.  We anticipate this being July 2021.
What does the transition period mean?

Essentially, you will see both units of competency (current & superseded) for a period of time and it is important for you to know that either of the unit codes are acceptable for industry purposes.
