What is Flexible Learning?

Flexible learning is about empowering students by undertaking learning in a way which suits the individual. We do this by giving choice for when and where the learners learn, personalising the process to fit with your needs and lifestyle. For example, flexible learning can be a great option for those working in the healthcare industry without a qualification, or caregivers who cannot attend weekly class schedules.

Whilst we acknowledge that flexible learning may not be for everyone, AHT offers a flexible learning program which combines practical skills, tutorials and self-paced learning at home.

Benefits of Flexible Learning

  • Continue to Earn While You Learn – one of the most common reasons our students choose our flexible learning program is due to work commitments. You may work full time and are unable to take time off work to go to classes and by undertaking flexible learning, you are able to do both.
  • Flexible Learning Lets You Study from Anywhere – Flexible learning is just that, flexible! You can study at home, on the bus or at our Blackburn campus.
  • Study Whenever You Want, Day or Night – Flexible learning allows a student to study around other commitments at times that suit the individual
  • Trainer access – Students can connect with your trainer by email or at practical sessions
  • Allows for work-life-learning balance – where and when you study is up to you as long as you are progressing with the course and making contact with AHT regularly.

How does the Flexible Learning Program Work?

  • Apply online and have an initial discussion with one of our team members to see if Flexible learning is for you. Additional application documents will then be sent to you which will include Terms & Conditions which must be agreed to by the student. In order to secure your enrolment and attend your induction, all requested enrolment documents must be completed and returned, course deposit received and have had your Pre-Training Review phone meeting to determine your suitability for the course. Only at this point are you considered a successful enrolment.
  • Students will be sent an induction email with a video and booklet to watch and complete. This will be sent once your enrolment is complete and approved.
  • We use Microsoft Teams to release your assessment booklets and store your resources. Once you have completed your induction booklet you will receive your Microsoft Teams login.
  • Assessments are due to be completed in a 2 week period and ongoing student progress must be made to continue as a flexible learning student.
  • Some units require students to attend our Blackburn campus for practicals/simulations/role plays in our simulated work environment at Blackburn (for each qualification requirements see above). Morning, afternoon & evening sessions are scheduled based on trainer and room availability and students must make sure they are able to attend.
  • Communication is key – your trainer and flexible learning administrator will communicate with you primarily via email. It is expected that you respond to email & phone correspondence within 2 business days.

Common Misconception of Flexible Learning

  • Flexible learning is not a fast track option. It is important to understanding this program is designed to work around your daily routine/working life, not to reduce the duration or provide shortcuts to quality training.
  • Flexible learning is not “Online Learning”. The majority of correspondence is conducted via email and students get the same resources as students who attend weekly classes.

Realistic Timeframes & Durations

The average duration for students completing a qualification by flexible learning is 9 – 12 months for Individual Support, Health Services Assistance, Ageing Support & Disability with a maximum duration of 12 months

Pre-placement Criteria

You are required to fulfil your pre-placement criteria responsibilities prior to AHT arranging your practical placement.

  • Satisfactory completion of written assessments
  • Attendance of the required practical assessment sessions

Practical Placement

  • Practical placement of 80 – 120 hours is required (depending on the course)
  • AHT will arrange your practical work placement for you in consultation with industry and your trainer
  • All providers request students to undertake placement in one block of time and as such, All Health Training suggests if you are already working you consider discussing and organising work and/or family care arrangements prior to undertaking practical placement to enable you to undertake these duties during the week. Practical placement will be commenced towards the end of your course and must be completed within 1 month after the course conclusion. Placement is not available during the months of December & January due to restrictions with employers.
  • If there is a public holiday during your placement you must make those hours up at the end.
  • When considering your placement dates please ensure that you have accommodated public holidays, potential absences due to illness and your class schedule
  • Students will be required to wear an All Health Training polo shirt and name badge (both provided) on placement. In addition, long black pants & black closed in, non-slip shoes will be required which students will either need to provide or purchase at their own cost
