Unit of Competency: HLTHPS006 Assist Clients with Medication

What will I learn?

  • Preparing to assist with medication
  • Preparing the client for assistance with administration of medication

What are the Entry Requirements & Pre-Requisites?

Do you tick all the boxes?

  • Applicant must be employed or recently employed in an Aged Care/Disability or Health Support setting with a minimum of 6 months experience. Proof must be able to be provided which may include play slips & a resume or letter from your employer.
  • Applicant must be able to attend two workplace assessment/s. These pre-scheduled dates are non-negotiable and are mandatory for the completion of this unit of competency.
  • Applicant will be required to undertake a Literacy & Numeracy test and a Pre-Training Review prior to confirming your place, to ensure you are able to calculate and check correct dosage of medication, expiry dates and client information. This includes basic calculations of ratios and volume, be able to correctly check and interpret client information and dosage instructions.

Course Delivery, Methods & Duration

Course delivery consists of blended learning:

  • Self-Paced learning – theory component
  • Workshop – revision of theory & simulated medication rounds (9am - 4.30pm)
  • Practical – medication rounds performed in the workplace

Upon a confirmed enrolment, you will be sent your self-paced theory pack consisting of a learning resource and written assessment to complete.

  • The written theory assessment is required to be submitted 1 week prior to your workshop date and assessed as “Satisfactory”. Approximately, 10 – 14 hours of pre reading and assessment time is required.
  • Workshop – 7.5 hours and will include the simulated practical component of medication distribution.
  • After your workshop has been completed, you will attend your two scheduled workplace practical assessment/s as arranged by All Health Training. These pre-scheduled dates are non-negotiable and are mandatory for the completion of this unit of competency.

Conditions of Workplace Assessment

You must be assessed in a relevant workplace environment on a minimum of 2 occasions. Additional assessments are at the discretion of your trainer and assessor.

Within those occasions you must provide assistance with medication:

  • to at least 5 different clients according to their care plans
  • with at least 5 different types of medications
  • used at least 3 different modes of administration

This is the requirement of the unit of competency training package and is non-negotiable.

This assessment forms final competency of HLTHPS006 Assist clients with Medication.

Certificate

On successful completion of all assessments each participant will receive a Statement of Attainment in:

  • HLTHPS006 Assist clients with Medication

Application Process

Public Medication Management workshops are conducted quarterly at our Blackburn head office.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Enrolments close 2 weeks prior to the workshop date.

Fees

  • Medication Management Course Fee: $600 per person
  • Workplace practical assessments conducted at your own workplace in Metro Melbourne (If applicable) Fee: $300 per person

Terms and conditions apply:

  • Workshop dates are subject to change.
  • Workshop dates are subject to minimum & maximum numbers.
  • Workplace assessment dates are non-negotiable and mandatory.
  • Full payment of fees is required at time of confirmed application – your booking is not confirmed until payment is made.
  • Students are required to wear appropriate clothing for the industry, including pants and closed in shoes for safety purposes.

Rescheduling, Cancellation & Non-Attendance

  • Please be advised that rescheduling, cancellation and non-informed absence fees may apply.
  • Failure to attend your simulated workshop will result in your fees being forfeited. If you wish to continue, you will recommence the application process again along with your fees of $600.
  • Failure to attend a scheduled workplace assessment will incur a $300 rebooking fee per visit.
  • Should you wish to have your workplace practical assessments conducted at your own workplace in Metro Melbourne, there is an additional charge of $300. The facility must be approved by AHT in advance of an application and this is not guaranteed.
  • Should All Health Training cancel a workshop due to insufficient student numbers and the next scheduled date is not suitable to the student, you will be eligible for a refund (*less $60 resource fee.
