HLT37215 Certificate III in Pathology

All Health Training is a Registered Training Organisation (TOID 22066) and provides individuals the opportunity to update their skills to perform at an optimum level and provide professional excellence. We deliver a variety of courses with a major focus on health, aged care and pathology collection - growth industries with significant staffing shortages.

Course Introduction

All Health Training offers this Summer Pathology Course, specifically designed for university students studying a health related qualification.

The Certificate III in Pathology Collection gives graduates the skills and knowledge to work in all areas across pathology collection, for example private sector, hospitals and doctors clinics. The units address the areas of Customer Service, Pathology Collection Techniques, Phlebotomy (blood collection), Infection Control, Work Health and Safety, Medical Terminology, Visiting clients in their place of residence and Electrocardiography (ECG).

Entry Requirements

  • Students must be undertaking a health related qualification or have a current health related background. e.g. nursing.
  • This is an open entry program of study with participants needing to read, write and communicate in English to a level to perform the job.  Students will be required to complete a LLN evaluation to determine suitability.
  • Students must be over 18 years of age to conduct practical placement.
  • The student must have documented Hep B protection which students must undertake at their own cost and provide to AHT by week 5 of the course in preparation for placement
  • Police checks are required prior to commencing practical placement which we will organise on our students’ behalf.  If a student has a Disclosable Court Outcome registered against their name, we are unable to assist with placement as industry will not accept students without a clear record.  This requirement is not negotiable.  Please note, in Victoria this includes any offence that may have occurred up to 10 years ago and will show offences that state they are “without conviction”.
  • Students are required to be able to access a computer which will allow use of a USB in order to complete assessments and read information for units of competency.

Method of Study

The summer pathology course is designed specifically for students studying a health related qualification. Extensive practical expeirence is undertaken in our All Health Training clinical laboratory, working one on one with industry experts.

Practical Placement

The course includes 35 hours of mandatory practical placement in Industry, which All Health Training organise on our students behalf, which must be completed in one block, being Monday to Friday with a start time of 8am – 9am and a finish time of 3.30pm - 5pm. This will be completed at the end of the course as students must have done at least 20 “successful” live bleeds before placement can be commenced.  Placement may take between 1 - 3 months to coordinate with industry.

Collection centre locations will be close to either the All Health Training location you train at or your home, but the selection of the collection centre, and the start and finish times are determined by the partnership organisation and non-negotiable.  Students cannot request an alternative location.

Students will be required to wear an All Health Training polo shirt and name badge (both provided) on placement.  In addition, long black pants & black closed in shoes will be required which students will either need to provide or purchase at their own cost.
