Overview

HLTAID002 PROVIDE BASIC EMERGENCY LIFE SUPPORT

This nationally recognised course is for all workers who may be required to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

There are no pre-requisites for this course except for the candidate’s capacity to apply oral communication skills to effectively make an accurate verbal report to emergency response services and workplace supervisor.

Participants will need to participate in physical tasks and will be required to kneel on the floor to allow assessment as stipulated by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC). Participants will need to wear appropriate attire to allow movement on the floor.

HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is also a component of this course and utilizes training with adult and infant manikins as per 2014 Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. It is a competency that satisfies employer obligations for the ‘WorkSafe Compliance Code - First Aid in the Workplace’ including “having appropriate first aid measures in place, including first aid kits and suitably trained first aid officers”.

Validity & Duration

Length of Validity

We recommend that you renew this qualification every three (3) years from the date of issue, however, the Australian Resuscitation Council stipulates that to maintain this level of competency that you are required to update the Provide CPR (HLTAID001) component of the course on an annual basis.


Course Duration

All Health Training has developed a four (4) hour training workshop for delivery of the course and can be delivered in your workplace by arrangement. Delivery is contextualised according to your Industry setting. Preferred class size is 10 persons with a maximum of 14 persons per training workshop.

Provide Basic Emergency Life Support HLTAID002 workshop consists of theoretical component, practical delivery and assessment class, where First Aid skills and knowledge are assessed.

Content

Key Content

  • Recognise an emergency situation
  • Apply appropriate first aid procedures
  • Communicate details of the incident

You will gain knowledge of:

  • conducting a hazard assessment and identifying strategies to minimise risk
  • demonstrating safe manual handling techniques
  • assessing airway, breathing and responsiveness of casualty
  • performing at least four minutes of uninterrupted CPR on both an infant resuscitation manikin and an adult resuscitation  manikin placed on the floor, demonstrating  learned techniques
  • following the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • applying first aid procedures for the following conditions:

+ allergic reactions

+ anaphylaxis

+ asthma

+ cardiac arrest

+ choking and airway obstruction

+ severe bleeding

+ shock

On successful completion of the workshop each participant will receive a
