Manual Handling

Manual Handling

Overview

Did you know that health care workers have a higher than average chance of being seriously injured at work? Manual handling is the biggest cause of workplace injury in Victoria.

Manual handling means using your body to exert force to lift, lower, push, pull, carry, move, hold or restrain objects or people. Hazardous manual handling can lead to serious musculoskeletal injuries. These can be debilitating and long-term conditions that can severely affect a person's quality of life. According to Worksafe Victoria your employer is required to protect you from manual handling injuries, at the same time, you have a general duty to take reasonable care for your own health and safety, and that of others who may be affected by your work, and to cooperate with your employer’s efforts to make the workplace safe.
